Roe v Wade: US sporting goods company CEO says they will cover employees’ travel costs for abortions, letter goes viral

Dick's Sporting Goods receives praise online for promising aid to employees in the wake of the US Supreme Court overturning a decision that guaranteed access to abortion nationwide 50 years ago.

The US Supreme Court ruled against abortion rights in the nation in a shocking decision. A sporting company's announcement to pay for travel expenses for employees seeking abortions in another state has gone viral as social media was ablaze with discussions over the impact and ramifications of the verdict.

By a margin of six to three, the US Supreme Court decided on Friday to reverse the Roe v. Wade decision, which had secured abortion access nationwide for 50 years. Others questioned how moms in need could access the essential procedure as people all throughout the country and the world protested the decision. CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods Lauren Hobart published the news on her LinkedIn profile. The letter quickly gained praise online and spread quickly on other media.

We acknowledge that there are colleagues and athletes who will disagree with this choice and that people feel strongly about this issue. Hobart's letter stated, "However, we also acknowledge that decisions regarding health and families are extremely personal and made with careful consideration. In order for everyone of our teammates to have access to the same health care alternatives and make the best decisions for themselves, Hobart said, the decision had to be made.

The business said that it would reimburse up to $4,000 in travel costs for US employees who needed to go to another state to get abortion care. According to Hobart, the benefit will be accessible to staff members, spouses, and dependents covered by the company's medical insurance. They are also capable of travelling with one assistance.
Regardless of the state in which they reside, Hobart stated, "We are ready to make sure that every one of our teammates has consistent and secure access to the benefits we provide."

Even Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf praised the company's efforts as the company's tweet went viral and generated a lot of internet discussion.

While praising Hobart for her move, many also tagged other organisations in the hopes that they would implement similar procedures. Many online users said they would now purchase her company's goods.
