Russia's McDonald's Substitute Says "Quality Top Priority" After Diners Served Mouldy Burgers

Diners at "Vkusno I tochka" tweeted pictures of the spoiled food on social media a month after the chain's opening in the area.

According to pictures posted on social media by users, the Russian McDonald's that underwent a rebranding has been giving customers mouldy hamburgers.

Following McDonald's withdrawal from Russia earlier this year due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the nation reopened a local McDonald's restaurant under the name "Vkusno I tochka" (Tasty and that's it). Alexander Merkulov, the new company's quality manager, claimed that neither the ingredients in hamburgers nor the machinery used by McDonald's had changed.

However, customers who visited "Vkusno I tochka" posted pictures of the spoiled food on social media a month after the fast food chain's local branch opened.

Insect legs and bugs in the burgers may be seen in the pictures. Mold on the hamburger buns was also shown in other photographs. In addition, a user submitted a video of birds gnawing on a stack of hamburger buns outside a shop.

A spokesman for the fast food business responded to the allegations by telling Newsweek that "product quality and safety is our top priority. Every step is taken to properly prepare and store the products. "We have already contacted the manufacturer for further clarity," the spokeswoman continued. Additionally, the entire batch that contained the subpar product has been thrown out.

Following the start of Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, a number of businesses abandoned the country, including McDonald's. It announced in mid-May that it had made the decision to depart the market after closing its restaurant on March 14. After the Soviet Union's collapse, the American fast-food chain ran operations in Russia for thirty years.

Alexander Govor, a Russian businessman, purchased the chain. According to him, the fast-food chain sold a record 120,000 hamburgers on launch day last month, according to Reuters. The original McDonald's interior is still present in the relaunched franchise, although there is no mention of the previous name.

Oleg Paroev, the CEO of "Vkusno I tochka," claims that the company intends to reopen all 850 locations by the end of the summer.
